Full scale testing results of structural damage detection using long gage fiber Bragg gratings and modal analysis

چکیده
Blue Road Research and the University of California have been collaborating over the past three years to develop a system employing fiber Bragg grating strain sensors and modal analysis to provide real-time, quantitative information on the structure’s response to a dynamic input (such as a seismic event), and a fast prediction of the structure’s integrity. This research, being funded by the National Science Foundation, has several publications showing its strong progress. This year marks a significant step forward in this effort, with the successful completion of a full-scale test performed on a longitudinal carbon shell girder being tested as part of the planned I5/Gilman Advanced technology Bridge in California, USA.

متن کاملDamage Identification of a Composite Beam Using Finite Element Model Updating
The damage identification study presented in this article leveraged a full-scale sub-component experiment conducted in the Charles Lee P owell Structural Research Laboratories at the University of California, San Diego. As a payload project attached to a quasi-static test of a full-scale composite beam, a high-quality set of lowamplitude vibration response data was acquired from the beam at var...
متن کاملA TWO-STAGE DAMAGE DETECTION METHOD FOR LARGE-SCALE STRUCTURES BY KINETIC AND MODAL STRAIN ENERGIES USING HEURISTIC PARTICLE SWARM OPTIMIZATION
In this study, an approach for damage detection of large-scale structures is developed by employing kinetic and modal strain energies and also Heuristic Particle Swarm Optimization (HPSO) algorithm. Kinetic strain energy is employed to determine the location of structural damages. After determining the suspected damage locations, the severity of damages is obtained based on variations of modal ...
متن کاملDiagnosis of Delaminated Composites Using Post-processed Strain Measurements under Impact Loading
Potentially having a destructive influence on the mechanical properties of composite laminates, the invisible phenomenon of delamination frequently occurs under impact loading. In the present study, simulating the performance of long-gauge fiber Bragg grating sensors, impact-induced average strains within laminated composites are utilized to develop a delamination identification technique. Firs...
